Plastic Bottles – how they are recycled from RecycleNow on Vimeo.
Plastic is an integral and useful part of our daily lives. Lightweight and shatterproof, plastic beverage bottles are among the most commonly used plastics. We all know that plastics is one of the most popular and useful materials today. But there\’s a problem: we now use about 20 times more plastic than we did 50 years ago and has caused environmental issues. However, we can optimize the lifespan of plastics by reusing and recycling items as many times as possible.
I can't imagine all of the plastic being stored in the ground right now because we as a society didn't emphasize recycling a decade ago!

Very interesting video blog. It is definitely scary how much plastic we use now days especially with all the plastic water bottles out there. It is comforting to know that all these plastic bottles can be recycled and re-purposed. The difficulty is getting people to not just throw away their plastic bottles but actually recycle them. If only a small percentage of people actually did this, it would make a huge difference in the number of plastics that end up in land fills. Again thanks for the post.

Along with recycling, reduction is an important step. Some bottled water producers are trying to reduce plastic in their production, also known as light-weighing, to make an impact.

Yes, plastics are very useful to our lives but we need to be recycling this stuff because plastics are actually made with oil and oil is not a renewable source, which is a problem on top of the fact that they aren't good for the environment. The solution is to reuse these materials.

Very interesting post and video. I didn't realized everything that goes into recycling a plastic bottle. What an endeavor. Half the battle is getting folks to save the bottle in the first place. I agree that continuous recycling would be a huge beneft to society and something that we should all strive to do. It's not always practible but it could make a dent in the phenomenal amount of trash created each day.

The more we recycle, the more recycled plastics are available, and the more recycled plastics that we buy, the more the industry will create.
